After infinite hours of practice (up to 10 hours per day for the last two decades) I’ve recognized a similarity between the various fears guitar players may encounter. My conclusion is, that there are 4 types of “Guitar Fears” affecting people who are practicing on a daily base:
- The fear of failure.
- The fear of being old and not having enough time left in order to develop “sick” guitar skills.
- The fear of being criticized by others.
- The fear of performing a live show in front of others.
All these fears share a common root: Lack of discipline when it comes to setting, pursuing and achieving goals. My advice for you: Set goals within your reach and focus exclusively on them, stop comparing yourself with others and stay inspired and motivated. Let frustration be fuel to your motivation. Never Stop!
